How to read it
- Northbound only. These are waits to enter the United States, not to go into Mexico.
- Estimates that move fast. CBP updates each crossing through the day, and a wait can change in minutes. Check again before you leave.
- Lane types. Standard lanes are the general lanes. Ready Lanes and SENTRI/NEXUS lanes are for travelers who have the right documents or enrollment; CBP explains each one on its own site.
- Official source. The numbers come from CBP’s Border Wait Times site. Rudy does not control or guarantee them.
Why it matters when you choose a home
For many people who live or work near the border, crossing times shape the week: commuting, visiting family, business and travel. If that is part of your plans, it is worth checking the waits at the hours you would actually cross before you decide where to live. See Rudy’s guide to the border and the airport for the roads, trolley and airports nearby.
