Two Parks, a Century Apart in Story

This is an inland community with no beach or golf course of its own, so the real local perks here are the parks and the library. Drawn from the City of San Diego's own Parks & Recreation facilities.

Ocean View Hills Neighborhood Park

A 5-acre neighborhood park next to the Otay Mesa Open Space, with shaded picnic areas, a full basketball court and a beach-themed playground.

Montgomery-Waller Park & Recreation Center

A historic site — aviation pioneer John J. Montgomery launched the first controlled glider flight in the Western Hemisphere from this hillside in 1883. Today it's a full recreation center with southern San Diego's first skate park, sports fields and picnic areas.

Public Library

A Recently Expanded Branch

One branch serves the whole area, right on Coronado Avenue.

Otay Mesa-Nestor Library

One of the larger neighborhood libraries in the San Diego system, reopened in 2006 after a $4.6 million expansion, with a community room, computer lab and a quiet outdoor reading space.

Local Dining Guide

Real Places to Eat Around Otay Mesa

Every name below is a real, currently-operating restaurant that shows up consistently across local review directories — not padded with anything unverified. Hours and menus change, so it's always worth a quick check before you go.

Everyday Local Favorites

Family-run spots along Coronado Avenue, Palm Avenue and the neighborhood's main commercial strips.

  • Beyer Deli — A longtime local sandwich counter.
  • El Rincon Restaurant — Everyday Mexican food, a neighborhood staple.
  • Vica's Cafe — Casual cafe fare.
  • Ed Fernandez Restaurant Birrieria — Birria and other Mexican specialties.
  • Palm Thai Cafe — Thai food on Palm Avenue.
  • Golden House Chinese Restaurant — Longtime Chinese takeout and dine-in.
Worth knowing: This is a border-adjacent, largely residential and industrial community, so the dining scene leans toward everyday family-run spots rather than a resort strip. Ask Rudy for current favorites.
