Otay Mesa sits between two city calendars, San Diego’s and Chula Vista’s, which means a lot of choices within a short drive. These are the events we would put on the fridge this fall, each one checked against the organizer’s page.

Fall Carnival at Cesar Solis Community Park
When: Friday, October 23, 2 to 5 p.m. · Where: 4901 Del Sol Blvd, San Diego
A seasonal carnival run by the City of San Diego Parks and Recreation Department. The city notes that some of its events ask for registration or a small fee, so check the calendar. City of San Diego fall events list.
Pumpkin season at the South Bay Recreation Center
The Robert Egger Sr. South Bay Recreation Center (1885 Coronado Ave) has three fall dates on the city’s list:
- Pumpkin Painting and Carving Jamboree: Wednesday, October 21, 5 to 6:30 p.m.
- Halloween Carnival: Thursday, October 22, 5 to 7 p.m.
- Community Yard Sale: Saturday, October 24, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Culture and community beyond the city line
2nd Annual Larry Itliong Festival
When: Saturday, October 10, 11 a.m. · Where: Montevalle Park, Chula Vista
Chula Vista’s festival during Filipino American History Month. City calendar.
Día de los Muertos in Old Town
When: Saturday, October 31, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday, November 1, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. · Where: Fiesta de Reyes, Old Town San Diego State Historic Park
A free celebration with music, altars and food as part of Old Town’s month-long observance. Day of the Dead in Old Town.
Downtown Chula Vista Día de los Muertos
When: Monday, November 2, 3 p.m. · Where: Memorial Park Bowl, 373 Park Way
Free community altars and a costume contest in the heart of downtown Chula Vista. Event listing.
Holiday lights without a long drive
Village Walk light show and snowfall
When: November 29 through December 20, Fridays to Sundays, 6 and 7 p.m. · Where: 884 EastLake Pkwy, Chula Vista
Free and about 15 minutes per show. It is a drive up from Otay Mesa via SR-125 or Otay Lakes Road. Village Walk 2026 events.
Starlight Parade
When: Saturday, December 5 · Where: Third Avenue, Chula Vista
The 62nd annual parade and festival. Starlight Parade.
